BIOLOGICAL SELF
Unfolding the Biological Self
Biological Self is represented by the physical self and the sexual self.
Physical Self |
Physical Well-Being |
The body characteristics such as the structure of the body, the color of the eyes and skin, the height and weight, the primary style, color and type of the hair and other physical attributes were not randomly developed but rather influenced by the genetic cell transformations occurring in the human body.
One's Physical self cannot be limited to the physical features they have inherited but can also be enhanced by other aspects such as the environment surroundings of a person, and the self-determination or will of that person to enhance or improve his/her own physical well-being. Healthy eating is one way to achieve physical well-being, having a healthy lifestyle consistently, maintaining proper hygiene, and being confident makes up for the other three ways.
I learned that it is important to know one's physical self, it is their primary information about themselves and it results in big impacts on other dimensions of the self since it can also affect the emotional self and the social self of a person. Since physical features are the front appearance of a person, it is important to take care of it because people commonly tend to judge other people by appearances which might affect the person's emotions and might limit his/her social capabilities due to judgments. One must learn to respect the indifferences of the physical features of different people because everyone has their own unique traits and features that are beautiful in their own ways.

Sexual Self |
Sexual Activities |
In line with the discussion of one's sexual preferences, we also have different views and behaviors towards sexual activities. While others consider sexual intercourse as something sacred that can only be done after marriage, some adolescents engage in premarital sex which bears a big responsibility as it may result in early pregnancy or acquiring STDs such as HIV that causes AIDS.
I learned that despite all differences in sexual preferences and our views towards sexual activities, we must choose to respect each other and stop the discrimination and stereotyping of different genders because everyone has their own stories. We should stop the stigma of looking at it as something degrading or something that lessens a person's worth because a single mistake does not define the person's capabilities to improve and change for the better.
